Undergraduate Admissions
The University’s motto “Southern Miss To The Top!” (SMTTT!) is our call to action.
It's an expectation and a challenge driven by determination, persistence, and a commitment
to worthwhile pursuits; to expect results; and to never, ever quit.
The University of Southern Mississippi offers a wide range of academic programs on
campuses in Hattiesburg and the Gulf Coast.
We're Proud To Be
Financial Aid & Scholarship Opportunities
We understand the importance of acquiring scholarships and financial aid.
- LendEDU nationally recognized Southern Miss in 2019 for having one of the lowest student loan debt figures in the country – and the #1 lowest in Mississippi!
- USM is one of the most valuable college options for many out-of-state students. Out-of-state students only pay $1,000 each semester in addition to the tuition rate charged to Mississippi students.
Redefining the Pinnacle of Success
Extra first-year support is available to Golden Eagles through special living-learning spaces like JUMP and ACES, and the University’s Center for Student Success is a frontline resource for keeping students on the timely path toward graduation.
- Southern Miss Career Services connects students with part-time jobs, choosing a major, career employment strategies and job fairs.
- The Center for Pathway Experiences assists students with finding and funding internship experiences that align with students’ post-graduation goals.
The Southern Miss Experience
Golden Eagle spirit is a 24/7 thing around here
Hattiesburg, also known as the “Hub City,” is Mississippi’s premier college city, with lots to see and do. Golden Eagle spirit is a 24/7 thing around here – not just 6 game days a year. And DYK? Southern Miss is the only Mississippi university with Mardi Gras holidays.
Be Your Most Authentic Self
Golden Eagles come from all 50 states and from countries around the world, and Southern Miss is Mississippi’s most racially diverse university. You can plug in and find your place in one of more than 220 campus student organizations, ranging from academic honorary societies to volunteer organizations to Greek-letter fraternities and sororities (and everything in between!). We model civility for our students by embracing The Creed’s call to exhibit civil behavior, demonstrate responsible citizenry, and do our part to achieve a positive and secure living and learning environment for all.
